As global demand for vegetable oil continues to rise, vegetable oil processors are under increasing pressure to deliver on production efficiency.
For most processors, water degumming is seen as a simple stabilization step to meet trading specifications. However, it is also one of the largest contributors to yield losses across the refining process, with losses as high as 5%.
Global biosolutions leader Novonesis has leveraged its expertise in enzymatic innovation to develop Quara® Supreme, helping vegetable oil processors reduce yield losses in water degumming by up to 2%* without complicating their process, according to the press release.
The new thermostable enzyme is a drop-in solution that lowers phosphorus levels and ensures consistent yield gains across various oil types, including soybean, rapeseed, and canola. By preventing FFA generation, it helps processors meet trading specifications and avoid hefty penalties.
“Quara® Supreme was developed in direct response to customer feedback. Processors told us they needed a simpler, more efficient enzymatic water degumming process.
In today’s volatile market, simplicity and flexibility matter more than ever. Processors must respond to shifting prices, production goals, varying oil qualities, and seasonal changes. And Quara® Supreme helps them do just that.”
says Hans Ole Klingenberg, Vice President, Global Marketing, Household & Industrial Biosolutions.
Quara® Supreme integrates seamlessly into existing processes, whether or not enzymes are already used in the water degumming step.
Its easy implementation and low investment requirements offer high operational flexibility with minimal downtime. Enzymatic processing can be switched on or off based on meal protein specifications or shifting lecithin and oil price dynamics, enabling processors to optimize degumming profitability.
For processors already using enzymes, Quara® Supreme simplifies operations by eliminating the need for caustic dosing and enabling a streamlined heater setup while still delivering high oil yield.
