MissionGreenFuels announced the closure of its Pool 4 and Pool 5 calls, which attracted strong interest across the green fuels value chain. A total of 28 applications were received, requesting more than DKK 375 million in funding – nearly three times the available funds, according to the press release.
This strong response underlines the urgency of developing sustainable fuels for shipping and aviation, two of the hardest sectors to decarbonise. It also highlights the need for a continued collaboration and support to accelerate the green transition in Denmark and globally.
“We are happy to announce that these calls have not only attracted applications requesting close to three times the available funds but also brought in many new partners and a significant rise in international collaboration. This is exactly what we need to strengthen the green fuels ecosystem and ensure that solutions are scalable and competitive on a global level,” says Carina Jensen, Partnership Director at MissionGreenFuels.
The Pool 4 and Pool 5 calls focused on critical themes, within shipping and aviation:
Pool 4, theme 1: Towards economically viable and sustainable green hydrogen.
Pool 4, theme 2: Towards economically viable and sustainable green fuels for shipping and aviation in 2030.
Pool 4, theme 3: Towards economically viable and sustainable green fuels for shipping and aviation before 2050.
Pool 5, theme 1: Transformative cost reduction for green fuel production in shipping and aviation by 2030.
Pool 5, theme 2: Identifying and overcoming barriers to scaling green fuels for shipping and aviation before 2050.
All themes are represented in the applications received, reflecting the breadth of innovation across mission partnership.
In addition to the strong overall interest, this round saw a significant increase in international partners joining Danish-led projects. This development strengthens Denmark’s position in the global green fuels ecosystem and ensures knowledge-sharing across borders, which is
crucial for scaling solutions that can have worldwide impact.
There has also been a rise in new project partners involved in the submitted applications. This trend brings fresh perspectives and expertise into the projects and helps ensure broader coverage across the entire green fuels value chain. The very high interest from SMEs is
particularly positive, as these play a crucial role in innovation and maturation of the value chain.
“Green fuels are essential to achieving climate neutrality and reducing energy dependency,” says Daniel Lux, CEO at Hydrogen Valley and Chairperson of MissionGreenFuels’ Board of Directors. “The strong response to these calls confirms that Denmark can play a leading role
in developing solutions that benefit both our economy and the global climate.”
MissionGreenFuels will now begin the evaluation process and expects to announce the selected projects in early 2026.
