Indian Battery Manufacturers Association appoints Avik Roy as President and Harshavardhana Gourineni as Vice President

The Indian Battery Manufacturers Association (IBMA) has announced the appointment of Mr. Avik Kumar Roy, CEO and Managing Director of Exide Industries Ltd., as its new President. This announcement was made during the Association’s 4th Annual General Meeting (AGM), held in Kolkata on 12th November 2025. Mr. Roy succeeds Ms. Preeti Bajaj, Managing Director & CEO of Luminous Power Technologies, who concluded her term as the outgoing President.

At the same AGM, the Association elected Mr. Harshavardhana Gourineni, Executive Director at Amara Raja Energy & Mobility, as the new Vice President.
The 4th AGM brought together key industry leaders and stakeholders from India’s lead-acid battery manufacturing sector. Key discussions focused on the industry’s ongoing transformation, spurred by innovations in battery chemistries, the growing shift toward e-mobility, and the increasing demand for renewable energy. These trends are reshaping traditional lead-acid battery applications while also creating new opportunities in other battery chemistries.
Looking ahead, IBMA has outlined several strategic priorities for the coming year. One major focus is enhancing circularity in the battery sector by promoting sustainable manufacturing and recycling practices. The aim is to improve material recovery and reduce waste across the industry. Another priority will be to strengthen IBMA’s public advocacy efforts, ensuring that the interests of battery manufacturers are well-represented before regulatory authorities.

In addition, IBMA plans to establish industry benchmarks for manufacturing and recycling lead-acid batteries, setting a consistent framework for quality and environmental responsibility. The Association also aims to improve public awareness of the sustainability and circular nature of lead-acid batteries, emphasizing their ongoing importance in automotive and energy storage applications. Increasing the visibility of the industry among key stakeholders is another key goal. Furthermore, IBMA seeks to expand its membership base by welcoming more manufacturers, which will foster greater collaboration and collective strength within the sector.

With these new leadership appointments and a clear roadmap for the year ahead, IBMA is poised to continue its role as the leading voice for India’s battery manufacturers, driving innovation, sustainability, and responsible growth within the energy storage ecosystem.
