Adani Power Ltd. (APL), India’s largest private-sector thermal power producer, has entered into a 25-year Power Supply Agreement (PSA) with Bihar State Power Generation Company Ltd. (BSPGCL) for the supply of 2,400 MW of electricity. The power will be sourced from a greenfield ultra supercritical power plant that APL plans to develop at Pirpainti in Bhagalpur district, Bihar.
This agreement follows a Letter of Award (LoA) issued by BSPGCL in August on behalf of North Bihar Power Distribution Company Ltd. (NBPDCL) and South Bihar Power Distribution Company Ltd. (SBPDCL). Adani Power secured the project by quoting the lowest tariff of ₹6.075 per kilowatt-hour.
The planned facility will consist of three 800 MW units and will be developed under the Design, Build, Finance, Own, and Operate (DBFOO) model. APL is set to invest approximately USD 3 billion in the plant and associated infrastructure. The coal required for the project will be supplied through linkage secured under the Government of India’s SHAKTI policy.
The construction phase is expected to generate employment for an estimated 10,000 to 12,000 people, while around 3,000 jobs will be created once the plant becomes operational. The company aims to complete the commissioning of the plant within 60 months.
Part of the Adani Group, APL currently operates 18,110 MW of thermal power capacity across 12 plants in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Tamil Nadu. Additionally, it operates a 40 MW solar power facility in Gujarat.
