Jharkhand: MP urges to set up ethanol distillery in Palamu

During the Lok Sabha session that began on Monday, Palamu MP Vishnu Dayal Ram raised the demand for setting up an ethanol distillery in Rehla, located in Bishrampur city.

Speaking under Rule 377, MP Ram informed the House that adequate land is available in the Jharkhand State Industrial Area in Rehla, part of his Palamu parliamentary constituency. He urged Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari to consider the location for an ethanol distillery, highlighting Rehla’s suitability for such a project.

He stressed that producing ethanol from rice would not pose environmental concerns and noted that the upcoming completion of the North Koel Project (Mandal Dam) would ensure ample water availability. He added that ethanol production could generate value-added products for the agriculture and pharmaceutical sectors.

MP Ram also pointed out that, aside from a caustic soda factory, Rehla has little industrial development. Establishing an ethanol plant, he said, would help create jobs for the local youth. He reiterated his ongoing efforts to attract industries to his constituency, a matter he has consistently raised in Parliament.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, during an earlier visit to inaugurate the four-lane Garhwa bypass on NH-39, had acknowledged the growing demand for ethanol and the potential for a production unit in the Palamu region.
