India: OMCs invite bids for supply of around 49 crore litres of ethanol for Q4 of ESY 2024-25

Indian Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have floated a tender seeking bids for the supply of around 49 crore litres of denatured anhydrous ethanol for the fourth quarter (August to October 2025) of the Ethanol Supply Year (ESY) 2024-25.

According to the tender document, interested suppliers must quote the quantity of ethanol in kilolitres (KL), specifying feedstock wise – quarter wise proposed. The bid pertains specifically to the period from 1st August to 31st October 2025.

The quantity bids are being invited from registered suppliers in accordance with the long-term ethanol procurement policy laid out by the government. The ethanol to be procured under this tender will be purchased at the prevailing rates applicable for ESY 2024-25, as notified by either the OMCs/Government of India.

Ethanol produced from a variety of feedstocks—including sugarcane juice, sugar, sugar syrup, B-heavy molasses, C-heavy molasses, damaged food grains, surplus rice from the Food Corporation of India (FCI), and maize, is eligible under the tender. These feedstocks are listed in the bid documents.

The tender also stipulates that bidders must offer a minimum of 100 KL of ethanol against any selected feedstock in a quarter.

According to the tender, the estimated OMC balance requirement for Q4 is 49.32 crore litre.

This move comes as part of the government’s ongoing push to boost ethanol blending in petrol, reduce dependency on fossil fuels, and support the agricultural sector by providing additional revenue streams for farmers.
