New Delhi: Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has acquired land in Kandla, Gujarat, to set up green hydrogen and green ammonia projects, the company announced on Tuesday. The move is part of L&T’s focus on clean energy, in line with the government’s ongoing efforts to promote environment-friendly energy sources, reports Business Standard.
The government has been encouraging the use of green hydrogen through programs like the National Green Hydrogen Mission and various pilot projects, especially in the transport sector.
Speaking to shareholders, L&T’s Chairman and Managing Director S. N. Subrahmanyan said the company is making steady progress in new energy areas, especially green hydrogen and small nuclear power units. He noted that the company has already started making key equipment needed for producing green hydrogen, giving it an early advantage.
Subrahmanyan also shared a significant update: the United States Department of Energy has approved the transfer of small nuclear reactor technology to India. L&T is one of only three Indian companies allowed to receive this technology.
“This is a major step for us. It marks the beginning of our work in small nuclear reactors and strengthens our role in building up nuclear energy in the country,” Subrahmanyan said.
