Seras completes £2.3 million upgrade at Tilbury biomass facility

Seras has finalized a £2.3 million upgrade to its biomass fuel production facility at Tilbury Green Power, one of the largest biomass power plants in the UK. The upgrade features advanced technology provided by HAAS Recycling-Systems, enhancing the plant’s safety, efficiency, and fuel quality.

The refurbishment, which took a month, included the installation of key equipment, such as a new dust suppression misting system, that improves safety and sustainability by reducing airborne particles and creating a healthier work environment.

Tilbury Green Power, owned by Greenvolt Group and Equitix, generates up to 335 GWh of sustainable energy annually. The plant processes 300,000 tonnes of untreated waste wood into sustainable wood chips each year, providing a 24/7 fuel supply under an exclusive contract with Seras through 2036.

“This significant investment into the Tilbury processing plant highlights our dedication to supporting the UK’s sustainable energy future,” said Aaron Whitrow, head of site operations at Seras. “In collaboration with HAAS Recycling-Systems, we have transformed the Tilbury facility into a leading waste wood plant, setting benchmarks in safety, efficiency, and sustainability.”
