Ongole: Reliance Industries is planning to set up nearly 500 Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) plants across Andhra Pradesh, with new facilities coming up in Prakasam district in Markapur, Giddalur, and Darsi, according to Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar, reported The New Indian Express.
The project aims to reduce unemployment and increase farmers’ earnings by using unused lands for eco-friendly bio-gas production.
Minister Ravi Kumar visited Divakarapuram village in Pedda Cherlopalli Mandal, Prakasam district, on Monday, ahead of the foundation stone-laying ceremony scheduled for April 2. IT & HRD Minister Nara Lokesh and Reliance’s Anant Ambani will attend as chief guests.
Ravi Kumar stated that these CBG plants will create thousands of jobs and help reduce migration from the area. Farmers will also benefit by growing special grass used in bio-gas production through tenancy agreements.
Farmers with private land will earn ₹31,000 per acre, while those using government land will receive ₹15,000 per acre, a significant increase from the current ₹4,000 to ₹5,000 per acre.
The Divakarapuram plant will have a production capacity of 100 tons, with 5,000 acres of land set aside for the project.
Each plant is expected to provide 250 to 500 direct and indirect jobs, contributing to the government’s goal of creating 20 lakh job opportunities over the next five years.
