OMV and Airbus sign MOU to advance aviation decarbonization through sustainable aviation fuel

OMV and Airbus have agreed to work together to reduce carbon emissions in the aviation industry by promoting the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).

The partnership aims to help the aviation sector achieve net carbon neutrality by 2050, with SAF playing a key role in this goal. The two companies will explore ways to make SAF more accessible to different customer groups.

Martijn van Koten, a member of OMV’s executive board, said that working with other industry leaders is vital for building a strong SAF market and speeding up the shift to a more sustainable future. He also noted that the collaboration with Airbus reflects OMV’s focus on innovation and sustainability.

As part of their efforts, OMV and Airbus will work together to raise awareness of SAF and the importance of regulations and policies in supporting the use of renewable fuels.

OMV has been producing SAF at its Schwechat refinery in Austria since March 2022, using sustainable and locally sourced materials like used cooking oil. The company is already supplying SAF to several airlines at Vienna Airport and has agreements to deliver a total of 1.5 million tons of SAF by 2030.
