NEXTCHEM awarded feasibility study for sustainable aviation fuel project in Indonesia

Maire Group has announced that NEXTCHEM (Sustainable Technology Solutions) will collaborate with PT Tripatra Engineers and Constructors on a feasibility study for a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) project in Sei Mangkei, Indonesia, reported Biodiesel Magazine.

The project involves jointly developing a small-scale modular SAF plant that will use regionally sourced feedstocks, including used cooking oil and palm oil mill effluent, with a target production capacity of 60,000 tons per year.

The initial phase of the collaboration will focus on a feasibility study to determine the optimal design and configuration for the plant, utilizing NEXTCHEM’s proprietary technologies.

NEXTCHEM will provide a comprehensive package including its NX PTU technology, a hydrogen production unit, and the NX SAF Bio technology. The NX SAF Bio technology is an advanced hydrotreated esters and fatty acids (HEFA) process designed for efficient SAF production. This process utilizes 2nd generation vegetable oils and residual fats, pre-treated with NX PTU™ technology. The purified feedstock is then converted into SAF using hydrogen, resulting in an ultra-low carbon fuel that can reduce aviation emissions by up to 95% compared to traditional fossil fuels. The modular and compact design of NEXTCHEM’s technology facilitates rapid project deployment and is well-suited for small-scale facilities in diverse locations.
