Vasco: The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) gave its approval for the establishment of a municipal solid waste-based compressed biogas plant with a capacity of 25 tonnes per day at Headland-Sada in Mormugao. The decision was taken following a proposal submitted by the Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC), reports The Times of India.
Under the approval, the council will provide around 3,000 square metres of land for the project, along with facilities for an electric transformer and a water connection to support plant operations. The proposed unit will process organic waste and convert it into clean fuel. The GWMC is expected to invest more than ₹8 crore to implement the project.
During the same meeting, the MMC also cleared an increase in the medical allowance for its employees. The allowance has been raised from ₹7,000 to ₹9,000, in line with commitments made under a Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Goa Municipal Employees Association, which has been pending since 2022.
In addition, employees who have recently been granted temporary status by the government will now receive a medical allowance of ₹3,000.
