Maharashtra cabinet approves two green hydrogen units in Mumbai Metropolitan Region

On Monday, the state cabinet approved the establishment of two green hydrogen and related production units in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. These units, each with a capacity of 10 to 15 kilo tonnes per annum (KTPA), will be designated as anchor units, according to a government press release.

Like other states, Maharashtra is also promoting green hydrogen production.

In January 2024, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde signed Green Hydrogen Policy MoUs with seven companies. The companies that signed the MoUs with the Maharashtra government include NTPC Green Energy, Avaada Green Hydrogen, ReNew E-Fuels, Inox Air Products, L&T Green Tech, JSW Green Hydrogen, and Welspun Godavari GH2. Through these projects, the government aims to position Maharashtra as a leader in the green hydrogen ecosystem.
