Korean Air to expand its cargo sustainable aviation fuel program through partnership with CEVA Logistics

Korean Air is set to expand its sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) program for cargo through a new partnership with global logistics firm CEVA Logistics. Launched in September 2023 to engage industry partners in sustainable practices, Korean Air’s customer-participation SAF program will now be supported by CEVA Logistics in its air cargo operations. The agreement, formalized at the Air Cargo China Conference 2024 in Shanghai, involves Korean Air sharing carbon emissions reductions with CEVA Logistics. Both companies aim to promote SAF usage and raise awareness about reducing carbon emissions in the logistics sector, reported AsianAviation.

Jaedong Eum, Senior Vice President and Head of Cargo Business Division at Korean Air, expressed satisfaction with the strong support received from businesses and cargo customers for their SAF program. He emphasized their commitment to forming partnerships that enable customers to actively contribute to decarbonization efforts.

Olivier Boccara, Air & Ocean Leader APAC at CEVA Logistics, highlighted collaboration as a key strategy for promoting decarbonization. He noted that through partnerships with airlines like Korean Air, CEVA Logistics aims to drive significant change in the industry. Expanding their SAF offering into the Asian market represents a concrete step toward advancing fuels and technologies to decarbonize air freight and the global supply chain.

In February 2022, Korean Air became the first Korean flag carrier to utilize SAF on its scheduled Paris – Seoul Incheon route. The airline also signed an MOU with Shell in September 2022 to procure SAF at major airports across Asia Pacific and the Middle East from 2026 to 2031. Committed to sustainable aviation, Korean Air plans to continue fostering partnerships with customers, energy firms, and stakeholders to support SAF adoption in the global aviation sector.
