Baku: Kazakhstan is exploring the development of a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) project with Hong Kong investors as part of efforts to expand agricultural processing, attract investment and promote low-carbon industries.
Agriculture Minister Aidarbek Saparov held talks with representatives of Full Vision Capital (FVC), Towngas and EcoCeres to discuss investment opportunities in Kazakhstan’s agro-industrial sector, including the proposed production of sustainable aviation fuel from non-food oilseed crops, the Ministry of Agriculture said, Trend reported.
The discussions focused on introducing environmentally friendly technologies and developing projects with higher value addition. A key proposal was the production of SAF using non-food oilseed crops as feedstock.
Saparov said expanding the deep processing of agricultural raw materials and developing value-added industries remain key priorities of the government’s agricultural policy.
“The implementation of such projects will allow us to bring unused land into agricultural production, expand the cultivation of industrial oilseed crops, provide domestic farmers with a guaranteed market for their products, and create new growth opportunities for rural areas,” he said.
The meeting also covered the use of agricultural and food waste as feedstock without relying on edible oils. The participants discussed potential projects to produce biochar and explored cooperation in green methanol production.
According to the ministry, the talks are part of broader discussions between Kazakhstan and Hong Kong investors on green energy projects, energy storage systems and sustainable aviation fuel production under the country’s low-carbon development agenda.
The parties agreed to continue discussions on the technical aspects of the proposed projects and the next steps towards their implementation.
