Karnataka government plans to establish biodiesel retail outlets statewide

Bengaluru: The Karnataka government plans to open biodiesel fuel stations throughout the state to promote the use of environmentally friendly fuel. This decision came after a meeting between S. E. Sudheendra, the head of the Karnataka State Bioenergy Development Board (KSBDB), and K. H. Muniyappa, the Minister for Food and Civil Supplies, Consumer Affairs, and Legal Metrology, reported VarthaBharati.

During the meeting, Sudheendra pointed out that the national Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has allowed the sale of biodiesel at regular fuel stations since 2019.

He told the minister that KSBDB has been working on various bioenergy projects in Karnataka. He said that opening biodiesel stations would help the national goal of increasing the use of B-100 biodiesel in vehicles. He also mentioned that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is very interested in growing the bioenergy sector in the state.

Sudheendra also discussed the board’s work on creating a new Karnataka State Bioenergy Policy. This policy aims to expand and commercialize the production and use of biofuels.

The policy is being developed with guidance from Minister Priyank Kharge, who oversees Rural Development, Panchayat Raj, and IT/BT.

Minister Muniyappa agreed with the plan and told officials to quickly start the process of issuing licenses for the biodiesel fuel stations.

The meeting was attended by several senior government officials, including Manoj Jain, the Principal Secretary of Food and Civil Supplies, Vasireddi Vijaya Jyothsna, the Commissioner, Shiva Shankar L., the Managing Director of KSBDB, Lohith B. R., a Deputy Conservator of Forests, and Dr. Dayananda G. N., a project consultant.
