NEW DELHI: India’s electric vehicle (EV) registrations rose more than 63 per cent year-on-year to 307,752 units in July 2026, driven by strong demand across vehicle segments, according to a report by JMK Research & Analytics, ANI reporetd.
The report said EV registrations increased 0.7 per cent from 305,566 units in June, extending the sector’s growth momentum. Compared with July 2025, total registrations were up 63.2 per cent.
Electric two-wheelers remained the largest segment, accounting for 61.4 per cent of total EV registrations, followed by electric passenger three-wheelers with a 23.7 per cent share. Electric passenger cars contributed 10 per cent, while electric cargo three-wheelers accounted for 3.8 per cent.
Electric car registrations rose 81 per cent year-on-year to 30,806 units in July, although sales were 2 per cent lower than in June. EV penetration in the passenger vehicle segment increased to 7.92 per cent, continuing its upward trend.
JMK Research said the growth in electric car sales was being supported by a wider range of vehicle models, expansion of charging infrastructure and rising consumer confidence.
Electric three-wheeler registrations increased 9 per cent month-on-month and 22 per cent year-on-year to 84,554 units. The report attributed the growth to better financing availability, favourable operating economics and lower ownership costs for commercial operators. EV penetration in the three-wheeler segment recovered to 65.55 per cent in July.
Among states, Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest number of EV registrations at 47,062 units, followed by Maharashtra with 36,642 and Karnataka with 29,183. The top 10 states together accounted for about 77 per cent of total EV registrations during the month, highlighting the concentration of EV adoption in major regional markets.
