DEME and OQ have announced a partnership with bp for the HYPORT Duqm project in Oman. Under this arrangement, bp will acquire a 49% stake and will act as the operator and equity partner, while DEME and OQ will each hold 25.5%. The project is currently in the design phase and is expected to commence commercial operations by 2031.
HYPORT Duqm is a major green hydrogen project being developed over 150 km² within the Special Economic Zone at Duqm, Oman. The agreement includes bp’s entry into the project, with the transaction slated to be completed in Q3 2024.
The project aims to produce green hydrogen and ammonia using wind and solar energy, starting with a capacity of approximately 1.3 GW and potentially expanding to over 2.7 GW. These green products will be exported to European and Asian markets through the Port of Duqm to support downstream operations.
Additionally, in June 2024, DEME signed a Cooperation Agreement with the Egyptian Government to establish a large-scale green hydrogen production facility in Egypt’s western desert.
