Gurgaon: The Municipal Corporation of Manesar (MCM) is moving forward with plans to establish a compressed biogas (CBG) plant. This facility aims to generate energy from solid waste materials collected within the municipal area, specifically by utilizing organic bio-agro resources, including cattle dung (Gobar), reports The Times of India.
MCM Commissioner Ayush Sinha recently visited Nainwal village, where he requested approximately 10 acres of land to facilitate this central government initiative. The project falls under the GOBARdhan scheme, launched by the Ministry of Drinking Water & Sanitation in April 2018 as part of the Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen). This program focuses on transforming cattle and organic waste into energy and compost, thereby managing rural waste and creating additional income opportunities for villagers.
“The MCM will submit a proposal to the government for the establishment of the CBG plant,” stated Commissioner Sinha. “Before that, we will collect detailed information on the daily waste generated, encompassing municipal waste, cattle waste, agricultural waste, contributions from cow shelters, private livestock owners, and other large-scale waste producers.”
Sinha emphasized that the biogas plant will not only contribute to maintaining cleanliness but also help in preventing the spread of vector-borne diseases. The organic manure produced as a byproduct will be used in agriculture, while the generated gas will be supplied to households. A private firm will be responsible for the installation, operation, and management of the plant.
Earlier this week, Commissioner Sinha issued a 15-day ultimatum to officials to clear the accumulated waste at the IMT Sector 6 dumping site. He also requested comprehensive details regarding the waste processing operations utilizing trommel machines. Officials report that approximately 4,000 metric tonnes of unprocessed waste currently remain at the Sector 6 site. Manesar has two designated sites for waste dumping and processing.
