Illinois Soybean Association and Mundelein Public Works host Congressman Brad Schneider to highlight biodiesel benefits

Mundelein: On January 29, 2025, the Illinois Soybean Association (ISA) partnered with the Mundelein Public Works Department to host Congressman Brad Schneider at the Mundelein Public Works Building. The event highlighted the Village of Mundelein’s commitment to sustainability as a member of ISA’s B20 Club, a collaborative initiative between the Illinois Soybean Association and the American Lung Association that promotes the use of biodiesel blends of 20% or higher in vehicle fleets across Illinois, reports Morning AgClips.

The gathering brought together Rep. Schneider, Mundelein Mayor Steve Lentz, Public Works employees, and ISA leadership for discussions on advancing biofuel policies and addressing industry challenges. The focus was on the role of biodiesel in reducing emissions and fostering cleaner air and sustainable operations throughout the state.

“The Village of Mundelein now proudly uses B20 biodiesel across 100% of its diesel-fueled fleet, including snowploughs, ambulances, and firetrucks,” said Mayor Steve Lentz. “It’s a true win-win situation with no negative trade-offs.”

Congressman Schneider emphasized the importance of biodiesel in the transition to a clean economy. “Biodiesel blends are a crucial element in supporting our shift to a clean economy,” he said. “I was honoured to join ISA and the Village of Mundelein Public Works Department to see firsthand how Mundelein’s switch to biodiesel blends for municipal vehicles like fire trucks and snowploughs helps lower emissions while supporting Illinois farmers.”

ISA Chairman Ron Kindred expressed gratitude for the congressman’s attention to the efforts of organizations and municipalities like Mundelein. “By choosing biodiesel, they’re making a meaningful impact—protecting our environment while supporting Illinois soybean farmers and their commitment to sustainability,” Kindred stated.

Since its inception in 2014, B20 Club members have collectively consumed over 110.9 million gallons of B20 and higher biodiesel blends, significantly contributing to cleaner air and more sustainable operations across Illinois. The event underscored the importance of continued support for biofuel policies and highlighted the broader community, economic, and environmental benefits of increased biodiesel adoption.

The collaboration between ISA, Mundelein, and Congressman Schneider exemplifies the growing momentum behind biodiesel as a viable and sustainable alternative to traditional fossil fuels, benefiting both the environment and local economies.
