Japan: Ozu biomass plant commences commercial operation

Japan Petroleum Exploration (JAPEX), Yonden Business, and SHINKO DENSO have announced that the Ozu Biomass Power Plant in Japan has officially commenced commercial operations as of today, August 1.

Located in Ozu City, this biomass-only thermal power plant utilizes wood pellets as its fuel source. With a power output of 50,000 kW and an annual generation capacity of approximately 350 million kWh, the plant will contribute to a sustainable power supply as a renewable energy source unaffected by weather conditions.

The generated energy will be sold to Shikoku Electric Power Transmission & Distribution Company under a 20-year agreement, supported by the feed-in tariffs scheme for renewable energy.

The involved entities aim to enhance the use of electricity from renewable sources, reduce environmental impact, and support local economic development towards carbon neutrality, with the backing and cooperation of the Ozu community.
