Indonesia is looking to strengthen its position in the global bioenergy market by expanding palm oil-based renewable fuel production through innovation, downstream processing and international cooperation, Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said.
Kartasasmita said Indonesia sees significant potential to become a leading player in palm oil-based bioenergy while supporting energy security and sustainable industrial development, Antara News reported.
“Through innovation, downstream processing, and international cooperation, we want the palm oil industry to serve not only as a driver of the national economy but also as part of the solution for energy security and sustainable industrial development,” he said in a statement.
The minister’s remarks came after Indonesia participated in the Palm Oil and the Future of Sustainable Energy forum during the INNOPROM 2026 industrial exhibition held in Yekaterinburg, Russia, on July 7.
Kartasasmita said Indonesia’s participation reflected the government’s commitment to expanding market access for domestic industries by strengthening global partnerships.
He added that, with demand for cleaner energy increasing worldwide, Indonesia is promoting its experience and industrial capacity in developing palm oil-based bioenergy as an area for mutually beneficial international cooperation.
Director General of Industrial Resilience, Zoning and International Industrial Access Tri Supondy said the forum provided an opportunity to showcase the progress made by Indonesia’s palm oil industry.
As the world’s largest palm oil producer, Indonesia highlighted its readiness to contribute to the global energy transition, including the implementation of its mandatory B50 biodiesel programme, which came into effect in July 2026.
The country also presented policies aimed at improving the sustainability of the palm oil sector, including smallholder replanting programmes, workforce development initiatives and advances in biodiesel technology.
The government said it is continuing to strengthen the Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) certification system to ensure domestic palm oil production meets international sustainability standards and remains competitive in global markets.
