Loganair has signed a 15-year agreement with ClimaHtech Green Flight to secure supplies of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), in a move aimed at reducing carbon emissions from regional air travel in the United Kingdom.
Under the agreement, the SAF will be produced using ClimaHtech’s BioSAF and eSAF technologies, which allow fuel production from waste biomass and renewable energy sources through decentralised manufacturing systems, Travel Daily Media reported.
The partnership supports the UK Government’s Sustainable Aviation Fuel mandate and focuses on developing locally produced fuel solutions that can help lower aviation-related emissions.
ClimaHtech is currently developing a SAF production project designed to support Loganair’s operations across the Scottish Highlands, Islands and other regional routes within the UK.
Commenting on the agreement, Luke Farajallah said regional aviation plays a vital role in connecting communities across the country and noted that securing SAF supplies closer to operating locations is an important step in reducing emissions from the sector.
Mel Courtney said the agreement reflects growing confidence in the company’s sustainable fuel technology. He added that the company’s electrically powered production platform is designed to work efficiently with renewable electricity sources, including intermittent power supply systems.
The two companies said the partnership will continue to develop as ClimaHtech progresses with its SAF project, with fuel supplies expected to begin by 2029.
The agreement highlights increasing efforts within the aviation industry to adopt cleaner fuel alternatives and reduce lifecycle carbon emissions from air transport.
