DeCarbon Copenhagen 2026 to unite Europe’s biomass, carbon markets and digital energy sectors

Copenhagen will host DeCarbon Copenhagen 2026 from 24 to 26 February, bringing together Europe’s biomass, carbon markets, and digital infrastructure communities at a critical juncture for the continent’s energy transition. The event combines the 9th Biomass Trade & Power Europe conference with CarbonSmart Digital Futures, creating a shared platform for dialogue across interconnected decarbonisation pathways, National Law Review reported.

As Europe’s climate and energy landscape evolves, with tighter policies, shifting subsidies, and rising digital infrastructure energy demands, DeCarbon Copenhagen 2026 aims to explore how biomass, carbon removal, and low-carbon power systems can scale in tandem.

The programme opens with Biomass Trade & Power Europe, focusing on supply chains, trade flows, and demand outlooks. Sessions will examine Europe’s decarbonisation crossroads, biomass market projections to 2030, and regulatory pressures on utilities and district heating operators. Panels will also cover global wood pellet and wood chip markets, logistics, port infrastructure, and Asia’s influence on international biomass trade.

Industrial decarbonisation will be another core theme, with discussions on the role of biomass and biocarbon in sectors such as steel and cement, alongside the economic and logistical challenges of deployment. Dedicated sessions will address bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS), including policy support, methodology development, and progress on real-world projects across Europe.

From February 25, CarbonSmart Digital Futures will shift focus to the energy demands of Europe’s rapidly expanding data centre industry. Panels will explore low-carbon electricity sourcing, energy storage, bioenergy integration, and the role of natural gas with carbon capture, alongside challenges in grid integration and carbon compliance.

Carbon markets and carbon removal will remain central throughout the event. Discussions will cover pathways to negative emissions, integration into compliance and voluntary frameworks, and MRV (monitoring, reporting, verification) systems, including digital MRV, registry interoperability, and credit integrity. Public-private collaboration and regional energy cooperation, including Nordic and Baltic hubs, will also be highlighted.

The event will feature panel discussions, fireside chats, and buyer-focused sessions designed to encourage practical exchanges among energy producers, traders, technology providers, and large energy users. Networking lunches, coffee breaks, and evening receptions will facilitate cross-sector engagement over the three-day programme.

With Copenhagen recognised as a centre for low-carbon energy systems, sustainable data centres, and carbon removal initiatives, DeCarbon Copenhagen 2026 underscores the city’s role in Europe’s net-zero transition. By connecting biomass markets, carbon removal, and digital infrastructure, the conference aims to foster collaboration and innovation as Europe advances toward long-term climate and energy goals.
