The government has disbursed incentives amounting to Rs 6,558.18 crore to 16,16,215 electric vehicles till January 26, 2026, under the FAME-II (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric and Hybrid Vehicles in India) scheme, Minister of State for Heavy Industries Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma informed the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
In a written reply, Varma said the government is actively promoting electric vehicles (EVs) and their charging infrastructure across the country through several schemes, including the FAME India scheme.
The FAME-II scheme also includes grants to support 6,862 e-buses for state transport undertakings (STUs) and public transport authorities (PTAs), with an outlay of Rs 3,135.5 crore, as well as 9,159 EV public charging stations with an outlay of Rs 912.50 crore, he added.
Other government initiatives include the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for the Automobile and Auto Component Industry (PLI-Auto), the Production Linked Incentive Scheme for the National Programme on Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) Battery Storage, the PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) Scheme, the PM e-Bus Sewa-Payment Security Mechanism (PSM) Scheme, and the Scheme for Promotion of Manufacturing of Electric Passenger Cars in India (SPMEPCI).
Under the PM E-DRIVE scheme, the government has provided subsidies worth Rs 1,851.97 crore to 16,56,269 vehicles from April 1, 2024, to January 27, 2026.
A total of 13,800 e-buses have been allocated in two phases under the PM E-DRIVE scheme for deployment in seven cities with populations exceeding four million—Bengaluru, Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Pune, and Surat. The tender for 10,900 e-buses under Phase I has already been concluded by Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL), while the tender to select e-bus operators for 2,900 buses under Phase II was floated on January 9, 2026, the minister said.
