The Renewable Fuels Association (RFA) on Tuesday welcomed US President Donald Trump’s renewed endorsement of the country’s ethanol industry, after he urged Congress to swiftly pass legislation allowing year-round sales of E15 fuel and said he would sign the bill into law without delay.
Addressing a gathering in Des Moines, Iowa, Trump reiterated his commitment to E15, a gasoline blend containing 15 per cent ethanol. He said he was confident that House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Republican Leader John Thune would soon reach an agreement to advance legislation supporting year-round E15 sales. Trump added that the bill would be sent to his desk “very quickly” and that he would approve it immediately.
Reacting to the remarks, RFA President and Chief Executive Officer Geoff Cooper said Trump has consistently backed E15, recognising its importance to farmers as well as consumers seeking lower fuel prices. Cooper noted that expanding access to E15 would create a significant new market for grain-based ethanol and help strengthen the farm economy. He thanked Trump for once again voicing his support and pressing Congress to act swiftly on the legislation.
Cooper also commended members of the Iowa House delegation for their continued advocacy for E15. He praised Representatives Randy Feenstra, Ashley Hinson, Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Zach Nunn for their efforts to cut regulatory hurdles and secure year-round market access for E15, which he described as a more affordable and cleaner-burning fuel.
