Belgavi: Three workers lost their lives and around 5 others were seriously injured after a boiler exploded at a sugar factory in Marakumbi village of Bailhongal taluk in Belagavi district on Wednesday, January 7.
The incident took place at the Inamdar Sugar Factory, situated on the outskirts of the village. Following the explosion, the injured workers were immediately shifted to private hospitals in Belagavi for treatment. Belagavi Superintendent of Police K. Ramarajan visited the hospital and assessed the condition of the injured.
Police officials said the explosion occurred around 2 pm, when hot liquid from the boiler spilled on eight workers working nearby, causing severe burn injuries. One of the injured was taken to the Bailhongal hospital, while the remaining workers were rushed to hospitals in Belagavi. Special traffic arrangements were made to ensure the injured reached hospitals without delay.
Authorities said a detailed investigation will be conducted after receiving a formal complaint to determine the exact cause of the boiler explosion.
