Sumul Dairy, NDDB and Suzuki sign MoU for CBG plant in Surat

Surat: A 75 metric tonnes per day cow dung-based compressed biogas plant will be set up in Surat following a tripartite memorandum of understanding signed on Tuesday by the Surat District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd. (Sumul Dairy), the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and Suzuki R&D Center India Pvt. Ltd, reports Desh Gujarat.

The plant, to be established at Bajipura, will produce clean compressed biogas along with organic fertilisers rich in nutrients. The project is aimed at improving soil quality, reducing reliance on chemical fertilisers, encouraging climate-friendly farming practices and providing additional income opportunities for dairy farmers. More than two lakh cattle breeders from Surat and Tapi districts who are associated with Sumul Dairy are expected to benefit from the initiative, which is in line with government policies and subsidy programmes supporting sustainable biogas production.

Sumul Dairy has already supported the installation of small, family-level biogas plants for 6,543 cattle breeder households, promoting the use of clean energy and organic farming methods.

The agreement was signed in the presence of NDDB Chairman Dr. Minesh Shah, Suzuki R&D Center India Director Kenichiro Toyofuku, Custodian H.R. Patel and Sumul Dairy Managing Director Arun Purohit.
