President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday emphasized that solar energy represents not just power generation, but also empowerment and inclusive growth, according to a statement from the President’s Secretariat.
Inaugurating the opening plenary of the Eighth Session of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) Assembly in New Delhi, President Murmu said the ISA symbolizes humanity’s collective aspiration to harness solar energy for inclusion, dignity, and shared prosperity.
Highlighting the global threat of climate change, the President stressed the need for urgent and concrete action. She reaffirmed India’s commitment to combating climate change through determined efforts and noted that the ISA plays a crucial role in tackling this challenge by promoting the use and adoption of solar energy.
Murmu underscored that inclusion lies at the core of India’s development journey. Citing India’s success in bringing light to remote areas, she said energy equity forms the foundation of social equity. Access to clean and affordable energy, she added, empowers communities, stimulates local economies, and creates opportunities that go far beyond electricity supply.
The President urged all member countries to focus not only on infrastructure but also on improving people’s lives. She called for a collective action plan that connects solar energy with employment generation, women’s leadership, rural livelihoods, and digital inclusion. Progress, she said, should be measured not merely in megawatts, but in the number of lives transformed, families strengthened, and communities empowered.
Murmu also highlighted the importance of developing and sharing advanced solar technologies to ensure maximum global benefit. While expanding large-scale solar projects, she stressed the need to maintain ecological balance, noting that environmental conservation is the very reason for turning to green energy.
Concluding her address, the President called for a stronger commitment to work not only for individual nations but for the entire world, and not only for the present but for future generations. She expressed confidence that the ISA Assembly’s discussions and outcomes would mark a milestone in advancing solar energy and building an inclusive, equitable world.
