GAIL (India) Ltd. has signed a Tripartite Concession Agreement with the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) and Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Ltd. (BSWML) to establish a Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) plant in the KCDC area of Haralakunte Village, located in Bengaluru South Taluk.
The agreement was formalized in the presence of Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, GAIL said in a statement.
Under the agreement, the GBA will provide 18 acres of land on a permissive-use basis, while BSWML will supply 300 tons of segregated municipal solid waste per day. This waste will be processed to produce 12.6 tons of CBG daily, the company said.
In addition to producing green fuel, the plant will generate about 22 tons of Fermented Organic Manure (FOM) each day, which will support sustainable agriculture and promote a circular economy.
The Concession Agreement will remain valid for 25 years from the date the project is commissioned.
GAIL said the project represents a major step toward sustainable waste management and green energy production in Bengaluru. It also aligns with national programs such as the SATAT (Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation) initiative and the Swachh Bharat Mission of the Government of India.
Officials said the initiative will help the city manage waste more effectively while contributing to India’s clean energy transition goals.
