Xiaomi has launched its first overseas Electric Vehicle (EV) Research and Development and Design Centre in Munich, Germany, marking a major step in its global EV ambitions, reports Hindustan Times.
Munich, a key hub for automotive engineering in Europe, will host Xiaomi EV’s European operations. The centre will focus on electric vehicle technology, performance projects, and design, while ensuring vehicles meet international safety and quality standards.
“The Munich centre will help us develop smarter, safer, and more advanced vehicles for the European market,” a Xiaomi spokesperson said. “We aim to align our EVs with our ‘Human x Car x Home’ strategy while adapting to local needs.”
The facility will house engineers, designers, and researchers working alongside Xiaomi’s global teams. The company also plans to collaborate with universities and industry partners on autonomous driving, smart mobility, and infrastructure solutions.
The expansion follows Xiaomi’s launch of the SU7, SU7 Ultra, and YU7 EVs in China. The Munich centre is seen as a key step toward the company’s planned entry into Europe, expected in 2027.
“With this centre, we are building local expertise, focusing on performance and technology, and preparing to meet European automotive standards,” the spokesperson added.
