NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), a unit of NTPC Limited, has signed an agreement with V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOCPA) in Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu, to introduce clean energy projects at the port. The plan mainly focuses on the use of hydrogen-powered vehicles, reports CNBC TV 18.
Under the agreement, NGEL will set up a hydrogen filling station at the port and bring in trucks that run on hydrogen for port activities. The aim is to replace diesel trucks with cleaner ones, reduce pollution, and improve energy safety.
NTPC has already started a project in Surat, Gujarat, where hydrogen is mixed with natural gas for use. Similar projects have also been launched in Leh (Ladakh), Greater Noida (Uttar Pradesh), Bhubaneswar (Odisha), and Kandla Port (Gujarat). The company is also building a hydrogen hub in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
NGEL has set a target of producing 60 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2032, supported by energy storage projects.
On Friday, shares of NTPC Green Energy closed at ₹104.10 on the BSE, up by ₹0.66 or 0.64 percent.
