Xiaomi to set up new EV factory in Beijing

Xiaomi has acquired a large plot of industrial land in Beijing’s Yizhuang New Town for about 635 million yuan (roughly $87.5 million), according to records from the Beijing Municipal Planning and Natural Resources Commission. The purchase was made through Xiaomi Jingxi Technology Co., Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Xiaomi Smart Technology, reports CarNewsChina.com.

The land, located in the YZ00-0606 block, spans 485,100 square meters and comes with a 50-year lease for industrial use. Xiaomi plans to build a manufacturing facility for new energy vehicles (NEVs) and related components on the site. The land meets the “six connections and one levelling” development standard, ensuring it is ready for industrial construction. Industry watchers believe this could be part of the third phase of Xiaomi’s vehicle production efforts, following the earlier rollout of the Xiaomi SU7 electric sedan.

In a separate development, Xiaomi’s automotive division has expanded into Shanghai with the formation of a new company. The subsidiary, established with a registered capital of 1 million yuan (approximately $137,000), is headed by legal representative Wang Zhensuo.

According to official records, the new company will be involved in selling both NEVs and conventional vehicles, along with used car brokerage and micro-passenger car rentals. The company’s scope also includes food sales, commercial agency services, and sales of transport signage and charging equipment, pointing to a broader push into vehicle-related services and infrastructure.

The new entity is fully owned by Xiaomi, signaling the company’s consistent focus on building a well-rounded automotive ecosystem that goes beyond just vehicle manufacturing.

These developments in Beijing and Shanghai are part of Xiaomi’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its role in the growing NEV and smart mobility sectors. As part of this strategy, the company is investing in both production capabilities and service-oriented ventures.

Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun announced on social media that the company’s next electric vehicle, the Xiaomi YU7, will be unveiled by the end of June. Production preparations are in progress, and deliveries are expected to begin in July.
