Volvo Cars plans to introduce vehicles compatible with ethanol-blended fuels in India, aligning with the global trend towards alternative fuels. Martin Persson, head of Volvo Cars APEC, highlighted that this move is part of Volvo’s broader sustainability goals, including achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions and embracing circular economy principles by 2040.
Speaking to CNBC-TV18, Persson announced that the EX30, a new SUV, will join Volvo’s electric lineup in India. He emphasized Volvo’s commitment to sustainability, stating, “By 2040, our aim is to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions and operate as a circular economy. In India, our next step will be introducing the XC60 and XC90 models compatible with E20 fuel.”
Volvo’s strategy includes launching one new full-electric vehicle annually, starting with the successful XC40 Recharge in 2022, followed by the all-electric C40 and the single-motor XC40 Recharge. Persson expressed optimism about Volvo’s growth prospects in India, projecting strong expansion over the next 4–5 years. While not specifying exact figures, he noted that an expanding product range and increasing environmental awareness among Indian consumers contribute to Volvo’s positive outlook.
