The Renewable Fuels Association (RFA) welcomed President Donald Trump’s renewed support for the US ethanol industry after he urged Congress to send a bill allowing year-round sales of E15 fuel and said he would approve it immediately.
Speaking at an event in Des Moines, Iowa, on Monday, Trump said he remained committed to allowing E15 to be sold throughout the year and said the leaders were close to reaching an agreement. He said the proposed legislation would benefit farmers, fuel users and refiners, and added that he expected the bill to be sent to him soon for approval.
Following the remarks, RFA President and Chief Executive Officer Geoff Cooper said Trump has consistently backed E15 because of its importance to farmers and consumers. He said wider access to E15 would help strengthen the farm economy by creating new demand for ethanol made from grain, while also offering drivers a lower-cost fuel option. Cooper thanked the president for once again urging lawmakers to move quickly on the legislation.
Cooper also praised members of Iowa’s House delegation for their continued efforts to support E15. He said Representatives Randy Feenstra, Ashley Hinson, Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Zach Nunn have worked persistently to reduce regulatory hurdles and ensure year-round access to E15 for farmers and ethanol producers across the country.
