Odisha attracts ₹67,000 crore investment commitments at renewable energy conclave

Odisha has attracted investment commitments worth ₹67,000 crore, covering nearly 6.8 GW of renewable energy capacity, at the third edition of the Odisha Renewable Energy Investor Conclave 2026, officials said, DD News reported.

The two-day conclave began on Thursday and was inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, who also holds the energy portfolio. The event was organised by the state Energy Department in association with GRIDCO Limited and brought together policymakers, investors, developers, financial institutions and technology providers to promote clean energy investments.

The International Forum for Environment, Sustainability and Technology partnered the event as the knowledge advisor.

Officials said the conclave also marked the launch of the state’s first wind resource assessment and a city accelerator programme covering six cities in Odisha.

Addressing the inaugural session, Singh Deo said the state aims to emerge as a key player in the renewable energy sector. He noted that India’s target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030 presents an opportunity for Odisha, which has strong potential in wind, solar and small hydro projects due to its coastline and policy support.

He added that the conclave is expected to support the state’s renewable energy growth and contribute to the country’s clean energy transition.

During the event, Odisha showcased a pipeline of projects across various segments. These included more than 5,000 MW of floating solar projects, 18,000 MW of pumped storage projects across 36 locations, and 500 MWh of battery energy storage systems supported by viability gap funding. Opportunities in wind energy, distributed renewables, small hydro, agrivoltaics and waste-to-energy were also highlighted.

Five agreements were signed during the conclave. The state government signed a deal with NHPC Limited to develop 1,000 MW of pumped storage projects.

GRIDCO Limited also signed agreements with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited and North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited for the development of 1,000 MW and 800 MW pumped storage projects, respectively.

In addition, agreements were signed with private companies for developing 5,000 MW of capacity across wind, solar, hybrid energy projects and green hydrogen.
