NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), a subsidiary of NTPC Limited, has announced the formation of a 50:50 joint venture company, AP NGEL Harit Amrit Ltd., in collaboration with the New & Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Ltd. (NREDCAP), a Government of Andhra Pradesh undertaking, reports Energetica.
The joint venture was officially incorporated on February 6, 2025, as per a regulatory filing by NGEL. The partnership aims to accelerate the development of renewable energy projects in Andhra Pradesh, focusing on solar, wind, hybrid, and energy storage solutions with a combined capacity of up to 25 gigawatts (GW).
In addition to renewable energy projects, the joint venture will also focus on the production of green hydrogen, targeting an annual output of 0.5 million metric tonnes (MMTPA), as well as green derivatives such as green ammonia and green methanol. Furthermore, the company plans to develop pumped hydro storage projects with a capacity of up to 10 GW at identified locations across the state.
NGEL has subscribed to 50,000 equity shares in the joint venture at a face value of INR 10 each, marking its commitment to the partnership.
This initiative is part of NGEL’s broader strategy to expand its renewable energy portfolio and support India’s transition to clean energy. Earlier, in January 2025, NGEL partnered with the Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd. (UPRVUNL) to form NTPC UP Green Energy Ltd., aimed at developing, operating, and maintaining renewable energy parks and projects in Uttar Pradesh.
Similarly, in November 2024, NGEL entered into a 50:50 joint venture with the Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Ltd. (MAHAGENCO) to develop renewable energy parks in Maharashtra.
Last month, NGEL also collaborated with Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam (RVUNL) to establish NTPC Rajasthan Green Energy Ltd., a 74:26 joint venture focused on developing up to 25 GW of renewable energy projects and green hydrogen projects with a capacity of 1 million tonnes in Rajasthan.
These partnerships underscore NTPC Green Energy’s commitment to driving India’s renewable energy ambitions and achieving its sustainability goals. The joint venture with Andhra Pradesh is expected to play a pivotal role in harnessing the state’s renewable energy potential and contributing to the nation’s clean energy transition.
