The Federal Government of Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the country’s electric vehicle industry through policies aimed at promoting local content and innovation.
Kingsley Udeh made the announcement during a meeting with electric vehicle manufacturers and assemblers held in Abuja, Arise News reported.
The minister said the government would continue working with relevant agencies to strengthen local participation in clean transport, energy and technology sectors. He added that the goal was to place Nigerian businesses and talent at the centre of the country’s industrial development plans.
Representatives of the Electric Vehicle Assemblers and Manufacturers Association of Nigeria said the association had expanded its membership across different parts of the electric mobility value chain after gaining legal status.
According to the association, Nigeria has the potential to emerge as a major hub for electric mobility in Africa.
Officials from the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council said reforms would continue to encourage investment in emerging industries, including electric mobility.
They noted that the expansion of the EV sector could create employment opportunities and support growth in manufacturing, energy and logistics.
Industry stakeholders at the meeting also highlighted challenges facing the sector, including limited funding and inadequate infrastructure.
The meeting concluded with the election of new executives to lead the association.
