Coimbatore: Minister for Municipal Administration K. N. Nehru laid the foundation stone for a ₹69.20-crore biogas plant at the Vellalore dump yard. The facility, designed to process 250 tonnes of biodegradable waste a day, aims to promote eco-friendly waste management in the city, reports The Times of India.
Earlier, the minister inspected the ongoing ₹167.25-crore Semmozhi Poonga project being developed on 45 acres at the Central Prison site in Gandhipuram, as well as a ₹9.67-crore international-standard hockey turf under construction on 7.02 acres at RS Puram Corporation Higher Secondary School.
Speaking to reporters, Nehru said the Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner had requested an additional ₹50 crore to complete the Semmozhi Poonga project. “With the chief minister’s approval, the required funds will be released so the project can be completed on time,” he said.
The minister also reviewed work on a new sewage treatment plant and garbage transfer station at Kavundampalayam, along with the ₹591.14-crore Kurichi–Kuniyamuthur drinking water and underground drainage project.
Additionally, he laid the foundation stone for the renovation of Ukkadam bus stand at an estimated cost of ₹21.55 crore and directed officials to speed up execution of the works.
