Malaysia’s Sustainable Energy Development Authority (Seda) will offer up to 190 megawatts (MW) of feed-in tariff (FiT) quota for the development of biogas, biomass, and mini-hydro projects through an e-bidding process, reported Bioenergy Insight.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof announced this initiative, as reported by The Edge Malaysia. This move is part of the country’s strategy to promote the use of non-solar renewable energy sources.
“This initiative aims to diversify our power generation mix while ensuring the security and reliability of our energy system, and identifying potential areas for bioenergy development,” Fadillah stated during his speech at the sixth International Sustainable Energy Summit (ISES) on August 20.
He also confirmed that the FiT quota allocation will be conducted through an open tender process, with details and timing to be announced by Seda soon.
Previously, Seda had concluded new FiT awards, with the final allocation in 2023 being 36.5MW, distributed among 21 biogas projects and one biomass project.
In the past three years, Seda has awarded a total of 555 MW in FiT quotas for biogas, biomass, and mini-hydro projects.
