KEC Agritech plans 15 new CBG Parks, eyes 225 plants by 2027

KEC Agritech plans to set up 15 compressed biogas (CBG) parks across five states in the coming years, driven by rising demand for clean fuel and government incentives, the company said on Tuesday, reports News Drum.

The green energy firm has already established a CBG park in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, and aims to build more than 225 CBG plants by 2027. “We expect to close this year with over 74 plants,” said KEC Agritech CEO Jitendra Narayan.

Highlighting the sector’s potential, Narayan described compressed biogas as a “game-changer” for India’s energy transition. He said the fuel addresses three major national priorities: energy security, waste management, and rural income generation.

According to market estimates, the CBG sector could grow to USD 37.63 billion by 2032, from USD 15.2 billion in 2024, reflecting a compound annual growth rate of 12% between 2025 and 2032.

The central government, under the Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation (SATAT) scheme, has targeted the establishment of 5,000 CBG plants by 2025. Oil marketing companies have already issued thousands of letters of intent to purchase CBG, providing producers with a ready market.

India generates around 750 million metric tonnes of agricultural residue, municipal waste, and other biomass every year, which could be used to produce more than 62 million tonnes of CBG annually. Narayan said this could replace a significant share of the country’s imported natural gas and LPG.
