Astana: A meeting was held in New York between Askhat Khasenov, Chairman of the Management Board of NC “KazMunayGas” JSC (KMG), and the management of American company LanzaJet, including CEO Jimmy Samartzis and Vice President for Commercial Affairs Stefan Thion, the company’s press service reported, as per Trend news agency.
During the discussions, both parties reviewed the results of a completed feasibility study and explored the next steps for implementing a project to build a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) plant in Kazakhstan.
Following the meeting, KMG and LanzaJet signed a Framework Agreement formalizing the feasibility study results and moving the project to the next stage—front-end engineering design (FEED). This phase will develop technical and economic solutions for constructing the facility. Market analysis suggests that demand for SAF in Kazakhstan could reach 70,000 tons per year by 2030.
Khasenov said the project will strengthen bilateral cooperation and support Kazakhstan’s low-carbon development goals. “This joint work will contribute to introducing new technologies, developing the biofuel market, improving environmental standards in aviation, and enhancing our country’s transit potential,” he added.
