The Global Biofuels Alliance, launched by PM Narendra Modi at the G20 Summit in New Delhi, is gaining traction and motivating industry leaders and entrepreneurs worldwide.
A number of countries and organizations are participating in the GBA. According to reports, Jamaica has recently signed an agreement to join the alliance.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness remarked, “These issues—energy security, energy efficiency, and climate change—are challenges faced by Jamaica and countries like India. Collaborating with India in this area will be very beneficial.”
Earlier, during a special briefing on the Jamaican Prime Minister’s visit to India, Jaideep Mazumdar, Secretary (East) in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), mentioned, “The Prime Minister of Jamaica has also expressed the country’s intention to join the Global Biofuels Alliance, which is led by India.”
The GBA is a consortium of governments, international organizations, and industries, established as an initiative by India during its G20 presidency. Its main goal is to unite major consumers and producers of biofuels to foster the development and deployment of these resources.
The alliance seeks to increase demand, facilitate technology transfer for biofuel production, and enhance trade. It is viewed as a strategy for India to decrease its reliance on fuel imports and reduce carbon emissions.
Conceived by India, the alliance includes the United States and Brazil as its founding members.
