IWTMA engages with SECI to strengthen wind energy deployment framework in India

New Delhi: The Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA) recently held a strategic meeting with Akash Tripathi, Managing Director, Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) to explore pathways for accelerating wind energy deployment and strengthening India’s renewable energy ecosystem. The meeting reflected a strong alignment between industry and policymakers on enabling a more efficient, future-ready framework for scaling wind capacity in line with India’s clean energy ambitions, according to a press release.

Key discussions focused on optimising the utilisation of high wind potential zones, ensuring that resource-rich areas are effectively leveraged to maximise generation efficiency within the renewable energy mix. Participants also highlighted the importance of integrated planning frameworks that align project development timelines with allocation processes, given the unique gestation requirements of wind projects.

Strengthening grid readiness emerged as a priority area, with deliberations around enhancing substation access and ensuring adequate evacuation infrastructure in wind-rich regions to support upcoming capacity additions. The importance of resource adequacy planning and load-side analysis was also emphasized to better align renewable capacity addition with evolving demand patterns.

Encouragingly, SECI shared plans to scale up upcoming bidding opportunities, with Tranche XX expected to expand significantly, signalling strong momentum in India’s renewable energy pipeline.

The meeting also acknowledged the need to address execution bottlenecks such as delays in power purchase agreements (PPAs), with industry stakeholders committing to work closely with SECI to identify and resolve underlying challenges.
