An Irish company has patented a process to convert old plastic into sustainable fuels, including sustainable aviation fuel and wax, reported RTE.Ie
Trifol Resources has installed and begun operating two large recycling machines, known as “reactors,” since June at the former Bord Na Móna briquette factory in Littleton, Co Tipperary.
As per media report, the company has secured agreements with two major international oil firms to purchase all the sustainable aviation fuel produced by the Littleton facility.
This development marks a significant milestone, transforming Littleton from a site historically associated with climate-damaging fossil fuels into a key player in the production of carbon-neutral sustainable fuels.
Pat Alley, founder and Chairman of Trifol, emphasized the goal of revitalizing plastics and improving their global perception.
“We acknowledge the issues associated with plastics, but we are introducing new technology to address these challenges,” Alley stated.
“We aim to provide effective solutions for plastic waste to numerous corporates and small businesses in Ireland and around the world.”
He added, “We will offer independent certification of plastic destruction and its conversion into valuable products, all without relying on subsidies.”
