Hyundai Motor India plans to establish nearly 600 public EV fast charging stations across the country over the next seven years.
In a statement released on Monday, the company announced that it will have 50 fast public charging stations operational by the end of December 2024.
Jae Wan Ryu, Head of Corporate Planning at HMIL, commented that the electric vehicle (EV) market is expected to experience significant growth by 2030. He mentioned that studies have shown that many customers are hesitant to use their EVs for long-distance travel due to the lack of adequate charging infrastructure. To address this, Hyundai is focusing on installing fast EV chargers along key highways and in major cities.
Ryu also emphasized that the company is actively investing in the infrastructure required to support the anticipated rise in EV demand.
So far, Hyundai’s charging network has facilitated around 50,000 charging sessions, delivering more than 7.3 lakh units of energy to over 10,000 Hyundai and non-Hyundai EV customers.
Additionally, Hyundai has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tamil Nadu government to set up 100 EV charging stations across the state by 2027, with 10 stations expected to be operational within 2024.
These 24×7 charging stations in Tamil Nadu will be accessible to all EV customers via the myHyundai app. Currently, three stations are fully operational at Spencer Plaza and BSR Mall in Chennai, and Hotel Seasons in Tiruvannamalai.
The myHyundai app’s ‘EV Charge’ feature gives users access to over 10,000 charging points nationwide.
Hyundai’s charging stations are strategically located in key cities such as Gurugram, Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and Chennai. The company has also established a nationwide network of stations along major highways like Delhi-Chandigarh, Delhi-Jaipur, Hyderabad-Vijayawada, Mumbai-Pune, Mumbai-Surat, Bengaluru-Pune, and Pune-Kolhapur.
