Himachal government did not send biogas plant proposal to Centre: BJP MP

BJP Member of Parliament Suresh Kashyap criticized the Congress-led government in Himachal Pradesh on Monday, stating that the state has not submitted any proposals for the establishment of a biogas plant, despite the central government’s financial assistance scheme for such projects, reported PTI.

Kashyap, who represents Shimla and is a former president of the BJP’s state unit, explained that the Union government had not received any proposal from Himachal Pradesh regarding the setting up of a biogas plant under the waste-to-energy scheme. He pointed out that while the state government had claimed to have sent a proposal to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, it was revealed in the ongoing budget session of Parliament that no such proposal had actually been submitted.

The BJP leader cited statements from the Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy, Shripad Naik, who informed the Rajya Sabha that the ministry had not received any such proposal from Himachal Pradesh. Naik also shared details of the scheme, explaining that the central government offers financial support of Rs 4 crore for setting up a new biogas plant with a daily capacity of 4,800 kg, and Rs 3 crore for biogas production at an already operational plant.

Kashyap emphasized that while the central government is doing everything possible to advance the development of Himachal Pradesh, the state government lacks the will to take action. As a result, many development projects in the state are not progressing effectively. He questioned how the Centre could approve funding when the state has not submitted Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for these initiatives.

Blaming the Congress-led state government for the mismanagement, Kashyap highlighted issues such as contractors not being paid for completed work, leading to a halt in development activities.
