Green hydrogen production: Uttar Pradesh receives proposals for 3 districts

Following the launch of its Green Hydrogen Policy on March 14, 2024, aimed at enhancing green hydrogen production, Uttar Pradesh has already received three proposals for establishing green ammonia plants in the state. Additional proposals are anticipated in the near future, reported Hindustan Times.

As per media report, Anupam Shukla, director of the Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA), stated that the state has received one proposal each for Gorakhpur, Jalaun, and Hamirpur, with production capacities of 1500, 260, and 780 tonnes per day, respectively. These proposals are currently under review.

The Green Hydrogen Policy offers substantial financial support, covering up to 35-40% of project costs, with a maximum annual subsidy of 100-200 crore rupees for the first five eligible projects.

Companies seeking these incentives were required to submit detailed plans by September 5, 2024, with initial submissions being prioritized on a “First Come, First Serve” basis. The review of new proposals will continue every 30 days.

The Green Hydrogen Policy, 2024 aims for a production target of 1 million metric tons of green hydrogen per year by 2028.

Green hydrogen is produced using renewable energy throughout the process and is used in applications such as petroleum refining, ammonia manufacturing, and heavy-duty mobility.
