Green Hydrogen: Oriana Power to build factory for manufacturing alkaline electrolysers

Renewable energy company Oriana Power Ltd announced on Tuesday that it will establish a gigawatt-scale factory for manufacturing alkaline electrolysers and Balance of Plant (BOP) modules.

The factory will be constructed in two phases, with the first phase, featuring a 500 megawatt (MW) annual capacity for electrolyser production, scheduled to become operational in 2026.

This facility is being developed in collaboration with Splitwaters, a US-based supplier of alkaline electrolyser and BOP equipment.

Oriana Power stated, “This factory will play a crucial role in our efforts to advance green hydrogen and e-fuels, including green ammonia, e-methanol, and green methanol.” The company did not disclose the investment details for this new project.

The partnership with Splitwaters will allow Oriana Power to leverage the latest electrolysis technology to ensure hydrogen production from renewable energy sources.

The BOP systems will support the electrolysers by managing essential functions such as water supply, gas separation, and purification.

Anirudh Saraswat, Chief Business Officer at Oriana Power, commented, “The green hydrogen market faces significant challenges due to high initial capital costs and long execution timelines. However, Splitwaters’ one-stop-shop model and modular technology effectively address both issues.”

He added, “Our collaboration with Splitwaters enables us to use their cutting-edge technology to produce clean energy carriers at scale and at a significantly lower cost, up to 30% less capital expenditure compared to other methods.”

Oriana Power is also working on green hydrogen and e-fuel projects in the UK and Europe in partnership with Splitwaters.

Saraswat noted, “We anticipate that the benefits from the green hydrogen and e-fuels sector will begin to materialize by the next financial year, and we expect this segment to contribute significantly to our revenues by FY2027.”
