Gasum, Preem partner to expand biogas access for Swedish logistics sector

Gasum has partnered with fuel company Preem to expand access to renewable biogas for logistics operators across Sweden, reports Bioenergy Insight.

Under the agreement, Preem’s corporate customers will be able to use their fuel cards at Gasum’s nationwide network of biogas stations before the end of December. The cooperation covers both liquefied biogas (LBG) and compressed biogas (CBG). Purchases will be consolidated into a single invoice, simplifying administration for fleet operators.

Road transport accounts for about a third of Sweden’s greenhouse gas emissions, which rose 18% last year. The Swedish Energy Agency and the Climate Policy Council have both stressed the need to increase renewable fuels such as biogas to meet national climate goals.

Sharareh Edström, Head of Traffic Sweden at Gasum, said the partnership will help more companies transition to cleaner transport. “Since entering the Swedish market in 2019, we have built a nationwide LBG network to support emission reduction in trucking. This partnership makes it even easier for logistics providers and drivers to choose sustainable alternatives,” she said.

Daniel Granquist, Business Development at Preem, highlighted the circular benefits of biogas. “It can be produced from food waste, manure, damaged crops, or industrial wastewater. By making use of these wastes, biogas strengthens the circular economy and reduces reliance on imported fossil energy. Being able to offer both CBG and LBG through Gasum’s network is a big step forward,” he said.

Preem said the collaboration enhances its position as a full-service fuel provider, combining renewable gases with conventional fuels to give transport operators flexibility while cutting emissions.

“This collaboration with Gasum is an important step in our ambition to offer the market’s most comprehensive and sustainable fuel portfolio,” said Jim Niesel, Head of Sales CRT at Preem. “It enables us to meet the growing demand for alternative fuels and simplify operations for our customers with an integrated solution.”
